Pongo Calling
The international jury has selected Tomáš Kratochvíl’s documentary Pongo’s Call as the Best Film of 2022!
The documentary “Pongo’s Call” is a story of resistance and love from contemporary Europe. Štefan Pongo leads a harmonious family life in the UK.
Racist remarks in his old homeland, the Czech Republic, turn Štefan into a famous social media activist. As a result, family life suffers and harmony threatens to collapse.
The film was presented at the festival by two of its protagonists, Karel Karika and Jozef Miker. Both work for the Czech-Slovak Roma Union, an international organization founded by the film’s main protagonist Štefan Pongo.
As Štefan Pongo passed away after a short and serious illness in February 2022, the award will be dedicated to his family living in the UK.
We are very proud that Štefan Pongo’s inspiring work and Tomáš Kratochvíl’s film work have found such recognition by the jury at our festival. Our goal is to make strong Romani voices visible and we think this award is the best contribution to this goal!
