CODE OF ETHICS OF THE CZECHOSLOVAK ROMA UNION

Introduction

The Czechoslovak Roma Union (hereinafter referred to as the “Union”) is a non-profit organization founded on the principles of solidarity, human dignity and equality of all people regardless of their ethnic origin, social status or other characteristics. This Code of Ethics defines the basic values, principles and rules of conduct for all members, volunteers, employees and representatives of the Union.

Article I – Basic Values ​​and Principles

1.1 Human Dignity and Equality

We recognize and respect the dignity of every person without distinction.

We promote opportunities and reject any form of discrimination, racism, xenophobia or prejudice.

We support the emancipation of Roma communities while respecting diversity and individual differences.

1.2 Solidarity and Mutual Assistance

We provide assistance and support to socially excluded and disadvantaged people, especially from Romani communities.

We support mutual assistance, cooperation and community building based on trust and respect.

1.3 Cultural identity and history

We protect and promote Romani culture, language, tradition and historical memory.
We commemorate the Romani Holocaust (Porajmos) and fight against forgetting historical injustices.
We support a positive image of the Romani people in society.

1.4 Education and development

We consider education to be the key to emancipation and social integration.
We support lifelong learning, personal development and critical thinking.

Article II – Ethical obligations of members and employees

2.1 Professionalism and responsibility

We act professionally, responsibly and with respect towards all clients and partners.
We fulfill our obligations conscientiously, on time and in accordance with agreed standards.
We take personal responsibility for our actions and decisions.

2.2 Impartiality and transparency

We provide services and support without regard to political affiliation, religion or other characteristics.
We act transparently, openly inform about our activities and management.
We keep accurate documentation and ensure public control of our activities.

2.3 Confidentiality and protection of personal data

We respect the privacy of all persons with whom we cooperate.
We protect personal data in accordance with applicable law.
We do not misuse confidential information for personal gain.

2.4 Conflict of interest

We avoid situations where our personal interests could conflict with the interests of the Union.
We transparently declare any potential conflict of interest.
We do not accept gifts, bribes or other benefits that could influence our decision-making.

Article III – Community relations

3.1 Participation and involvement

We support active members participating in Roma communities to decide on matters that affect them.
We create an environment for dialogue, exchange of experiences and collective problem-solving.
We respect the opinions and needs of the community.

3.2 Empowerment

We support the independence and self-confidence of individuals and communities.
We help people discover their own potential and abilities.
We do not seek to replace people’s own initiative, but provide tools for their development.

3.3 Combating prejudice

We actively oppose stereotypes, prejudices and negative images of Roma.
We educate the majority society about Roma culture and history.
We support positive examples and role models from Roma communities.

Article IV – Relations with partners and the public

4.1 Cooperation and partnership

We build partnerships based on mutual respect, trust and common goals.
We cooperate with other organizations, institutions and individuals for the benefit of Roma communities.
We comply with all agreements and commitments to partners.

4.2 Communication with the public

We communicate openly, truthfully and clearly.
We do not disseminate false, misleading or defamatory information.
We respond constructively to criticism and feedback.

4.3 Representing the Union

We represent the values ​​and the Union in public appearances.
We do not eat on behalf of the Union without proper authorization.
We behave in a way that does not damage the good name of the organization.

Article V – Financial ethics and management

5.1 Transparency of management

We ensure transparent handling of financial resources.
We regularly publish annual reports and accounting documentation.
We submit to an independent audit.

5.2 Effective use of funds

We use financial resources exclusively to achieve the objectives of the Union.
We manage our finances efficiently and responsibly.
We do not allow the misuse of financial resources for personal gain.

5.3 Fundraising and Donations

We act ethically and transparently when raising funds.

We inform donors about how their contributions will be used.

We do not accept funds from questionable sources or sources that are inconsistent with our values.

Article VI – Protection from Discrimination and Harassment

6.1 Zero Tolerance

We have a zero tolerance policy towards discrimination, harassment, bullying or any form of violence.

We create a safe and respectful environment for all.

6.2 Equal Opportunities

We ensure equal opportunities in access to services, employment and volunteering.

We actively promote diversity and inclusion.

6.3 Protection of vulnerable groups

We pay special attention to the protection of children, seniors and other vulnerable people.

We implement protective mechanisms and procedures.

Article VII – Environmental responsibility

7.1 Sustainability

We respect the environment and the principles of sustainable development in our activities.

We minimize the negative impacts of our activities on nature.

We promote environmental awareness in the community.

Article VIII – Education and competence development

8.1 Continuous education

We support continuous education and competence development of all members and employees.

We create opportunities for sharing experiences and good practices.

8.2 Quality of services

We strive to continuously improve the quality of our services and programs.

We regularly evaluate the impacts of our activities.

Article IX – Resolving ethical dilemmas

9.1 Procedure for violation of the code

Anyone who becomes aware of a violation of this code has the obligation to report it.
The Union ensures a confidential and fair investigation of all complaints.
Violations of the Code may result in disciplinary action, including termination of membership or employment.

9.2 Ethics Commission

An ethics commission may be established to resolve complex ethical dilemmas.
The commission provides advice and recommendations on ethical issues.

9.3 Whistleblower Protection

People reporting violations of the Code are protected from retaliation or discrimination.
We ensure anonymity for whistleblowers if they request it.

Article X – Final Provisions

10.1 Validity and Revision

This Code of Ethics shall enter into force on the date of its approval.
The Code shall be regularly reviewed and updated according to the needs of the organization.

10.2 Binding nature

All members, employees, volunteers and representatives of the Union are obliged to comply with this Code.
Familiarization with the Code is part of the induction process for new members and employees.

10.3 Conclusion

This Code of Ethics is a living document that expresses our values ​​and commitments to the Roma community and society as a whole.
